The second Time Out Market in Portugal was inaugurated last Friday, May 3, in Porto. (The first one it’s in Lisbon.).
This is a gastronomic and cultural market that brings together the best of the city under one roof. Located in the south wing of the São Bento train station. The market is a space that served as a support area for the train station and in which around 7.5 million euros have been invested for its restoration. A space that features top chefs, restaurants, bars and local cultural experiences, making it a key gastronomic and cultural destination in the city.
Time Out Market Porto with approximately 2,000 square meters inside, with capacity for more than 650 people and with a large outdoor patio, it’s open every day of the week, between 10.00 am and 00.00 hours. The market is made up of 16 spaces: 12 restaurants, two bars, a store called A Vida Portuguesa and a tasting room at the top of a tower. A space revitalization project designed by the Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, Pritzker Prize in 2011, inspired by the old water tanks that existed in the train stations.
This new space in Porto brings together several renowned names in Portuguese gastronomy, such as chefs Ricardo Costa (2 Michelin stars at Yeatman), Rui Paula (2 Michelin stars at Casa do Chá da Boa Nova), Vasco Coelho Santos (1 Michelin Star at Euskalduna Studio), Rafaela Louzada, as well as chef Nuno Castro's , vegetarian restaurant Fava Tonka, Casa Inês, by Inês Diniz (formerly Casa Aleixo), Meia-Nau, Okra Pizzaria, Tábua Rasa, Brusco Burger and Padaria Ribeiro. The aforementioned chefs and restaurants are joined by two other names in this concept that celebrates the city's gastronomic and cultural talent: Sala de Prova and A Vida Portuguesa. The first is the concept that gives life to the top of the tower, a privileged place for locals, national and foreign tourists to live the best experience of Port and Douro wines, led by winemaker Bento Amaral, which is accompanied by a snack menu created by chef Luís Américo, where every month there is a calendar of events linked to wine, including wine initiation courses, masterclasses, conversations with winemakers and wine dinners, among many others.

We have selected award-winning chefs, renowned restaurants and some local treasures, all representing the incredible gastronomy of Porto. We have brought them together in a unique space, renovated by Souto de Moura, one of the most important names in Portuguese architecture. We are dedicated to making Time Out Market Porto a new gastronomic and cultural center in downtown Porto," says Inês Santos Almeida, general manager of Time Out Market Porto, quoted in a press release.
